There are 3 types of official safety training required: University level, Department level, and Lab level.
Everyone is required to complete Safety in the Research Lab. It only needs to be completed once.
Additional hazards in your research may require other types of online training, such as Radiation Safety Orientation if you work around radiation, or Biological Safety in the Laboratory. Your supervisor will let you know which training modules to complete.
Department safety training is done once a year, usually at the end of August. If you cannot make it to the training session, contact Amanda Dillman for other options to cover this training.
ESCI annual safety training slides for 2025
Each research lab is responsible for training their members on how to safely use the equipment and procedures in the lab. This needs to be completed once and documented (Trainee name, date, trainer name).
Each research lab is also responsible for doing an annual refresher for safety training in their lab. This needs to be documented every year. Templates for this training can be found here: Individual Lab Safety Training
